Here are is a list of some of my favorite tech gadgets, designed to help make your chores less of a chore…and get you feeling like you’ve got a jump on the season.

Let’s start outside. Cleaning gutters isn’t fun, and besides being wet and dirty, it’s not always safe perching on a ladder wielding a trowel or other appliance to clean out the gunk. But there’s a tech solution: the Looj from iRobot. It features a high-velocity auger that travels down your gutter automatically, cleaning out twigs, leaves, and whatever is in its way, adapting and adjusting to the debris as it goes along. It also backs up if it hits an overhang. The Looj will keep you off your tippy toes as you use a wireless remote to control it. Cost is about $300.

OK, now we’re moving inside.  Vacuuming, to me, epitomizes the drudgery of spring cleaning. And while the Jetson’s Rosie may be in the unforeseeable future, in the meantime, we can take a step in the right direction with these vacuums. Even if you’ve been faithfully vacuuming all winter, robot vacuums can step up your game. The Neato Robotics is a leader in this growing field, and its square shape makes it ideal for its cornering ability.

Neato is known for its intelligence and power. It uses laser-tracking technology similar to the Google driverless car; maps your home and then methodically moves from room to room in straight cleaning pattern. Now that’s efficient. Reviews also have shown its best for pet hair pick up. And if you’re a two-dog family like mine that makes a difference! You can set it to run anytime, so that you can even be out of the house. Depending on the model you have in mind, Neatos can go for $200-$400 dollars.

How many times have you wanted to say, “I don’t do windows!”? Now you can, with new-to-market mechanized window-cleaning devices. Like the robot vacuums, models such as the Windoro or Winbot work on a charge, and can be set to clean when you’re not home (although they are fun to watch!) Typically the products stay on the window with a magnetic suctions system, and use spinning microfiber pads to clean. Cost for these, again depending on model and brand, can vary between $300-$500 dollars.

Now let's got to your desktop, let’s tackle that! Of course, here at AVG, we can handle what for many people has become a key task on their spring cleaning to-do list: scrubbing up their computer or smartphone for maximum efficiency. Our programs can analyze your device, go through that junk, help you eliminate it – and speed it up. Remember when you got your new device, how fast it was? Now you can return to the new-car-smell type of experience!

One of our most widely used products is AVG PC TuneUp which has over 30 tools to help you organize and speed up your machine. Mac users can remove clutter from their system and find annoying duplicate files with our new AVG Cleaner Pro for Mac.

If you’re looking to give your mobile device a spring clean, AVG Cleaner for Android 2.0 is just the app! It helps you free up valuable space and has data monitoring tools so you don’t get hit with unexpected data charges.

Web browsers are the windows through which we view the web and what good is a dirty window?! AVG Web TuneUp is tailor made to help keep browsers running smoothly and protects your privacy with simple, one-click cleaning including your browsing history, cookies, download history, and saved forms.

Digital cleaning should be part of your cleaning list if it isn’t already, and AVG’s got you covered.

OK, we’ve got your house and your desktop. How about keeping the environment that way? There are a bunch of air purifiers on the market that make your home a breathe-easy environment, by eliminating contaminants and tobacco smoke. Phillips makes a leading model, and so does Honeywell. There’s also the Rabbit AirbioGS, which has carbon filters and is specifically designed to keep homes allergy-free. One more gadget to help you breathe easy. Cost for these models can be anywhere between $200-$400 dollars.

OK, so I’m still pining for Rosie, with her efficient ways and cocktail-waitress voice. But I’ll make do with these gadgets that make my spring easier, and more efficient.

Spring is here. It’s a great time to put away winter things, get the house in order, and look forward to gardening, sunnier days, and the turn of the season.  And if you’re like many Boomers, spring cleaning was a ritual you learned with your mother. Today we can blend that tradition with modern technology to do spring cleaning in a more efficient, less strenuous, but equally industrious way.
